The 0-4377 Flamethrower is a weapon that appears in Serious Sam: Double D and Serious Sam: Double D: XXL.

Overview[]

The flamethrower fires a stream of fire when the attack key is held down. This stream can inflict a good amount of damage when it hits a target and will set the target on fire, doing even more damage. The flames produced by the flamethrower can also destroy enemy projectiles. Like other flamethrowers in the series, the fire stream has a limited range, however, making it impractical at long range.

Upgrades[]

In XXL, the flamethrower can receive several upgrades which can be bought from The Trader with Cerebral Controllers. These upgrades can be useful for incapacitating large enemies or groups of weak enemies. Some upgrades require progressing through the game before they can be unlocked. The final upgrade, Fire Twister, can only be unlocked by completing the game.

0-4377 Flamethrower Ponzificator Ponzificator ($120)
Creates green fire which has the same effect as normal fire. Spraying the green fire onto currency will cause it to spring into the air and duplicate itself, but only once.
0-4377 Flamethrower Hot Butter Spreader Hot Butter Spreader ($200)
Slices and throws a huge pat of butter. Butter will melt quickly on most surfaces. Can be used to trip enemies and incapacitate them. The player can also slide on the butter.
0-4377 Flamethrower Syrup Squirter Syrup Squirter ($200)
Squirts a quick jet of syrup. Forms syrup puddles which will slow down both enemies and the player. Vuvuzelators are unaffected by the puddles.
0-4377 Flamethrower Fire Twister Fire Twister ($300)
Fires a ball of fire which mantains a column of flames based on how long the weapon is charged for.

Appearances[]

The flamethrower first appears in Carrion Caverns, but can be obtained earlier in Jurassic Reckoning as a secret.

Tactics[]

  • The flamethrower is very useful against at close-quarters. Its high rate of fire and good damage allows it to quickly destroy any enemies near the player.
  • The flamethrower is also handy for destroying enemy projectiles. Putting one on a gunstack and constantly holding down the fire key lets the player destroy most projectiles heading towards them.
  • Keep in mind that the flamethrower tends to go through its ammo reserve quickly, so the player should always be on the lookout for ammo if they intend to use it for a decent amount of time. The player can also buy ammo clips from the Trader in the shop to increse the amount of ammo for the flamethrower should this happen often.
  • Putting the flamethrower higher on a gunstack gives it more range because of how large gunstacks are angled. This can be useful for reaching out and touching enemies at near-long range.
  • Combining the flamethrower with the Insane-brand Chainsaw is a good idea, as the flamethrower can harm both the enemy the Chainsaw is hitting and enemies behind the chainsaw victim. The chainsaw can also finish off any enemies that manage to get past the flamethrower(s), which completely destroys weak to medium-strength enemies at close quarters.
  • The flamethrower also works on the lower part of a gunstack. By putting it on the bottom, it can serve as a personal defense weapon against enemies that somehow manage to survive the onslaught from other enemies. Its good rate of fire and damage can rip through any weak or medium-strength enemies that manage to get close to the player.
  • The Hot Butter Spreader and Syrup Squirter upgrades are very useful for incapacitating groups of weak enemies like Gnaars and Kleer Skeletons, as well as large and tough enemies such as the Major Bio-mechanoid, Spinosaurus and Therizinosaurus, as it temporarily prevents them from attacking while slipping.
  • The Fire Twister upgrade is great for forming cover when being overwhelmed by swarms of enemies or if there are lots of projectiles coming for them.
