The Air Elemental (Storm Golem in Serious Sam Classics: Revolution) is an enemy cut from Serious Sam: The First Encounter. It appears as a functioning enemy in Serious Sam Classics: Revolution.

Overview[]

The Storm Golem is a Golem made out of air. It comes in three sizes; small, medium and large. Its main attack is to throw tornado balls at the player. The tornado balls thrown by medium and large Storm Golems go in an arced trajectory. If the target is too close to a Storm Golem, it will pound the ground, dealing massive damage. Unlike other Golems, Storm Golems cannot duplicate themselves, but are immune to bullet-based weapons due to being made out of air.

Unlike the other elementals, it is unknown which levels it would've appeared in. The only unused “planet” levels that don't have a known elemental enemy is the Green Planet and the Tropic Planet. The Storm Golem is featured in the Bright Island campaign as a rather uncommon enemy, appearing from Ruins of the Abyss onwards once the player has obtained both the water and fire elements to power up the teleporter. It does not appear again until Forlorn Ruins, once the player has exited the swamp. A large one appears as the third of the five final bosses at the end of the final level The Steps of Despair. In co-op, the Storm Golem can be made to appear in levels outside Bright Island if the mutator replacing enemies with new types is enabled, in which case it is possible for a large Storm Golem to appear as a boss in either Alley of the Sphinxes or The Grand Cathedral.

Of note is that Kukulkán, the Wind God, the first boss in Serious Sam: The Second Encounter, is based off of the Air Elemental; they both throw tornadoes at the player, using the same projectile code (Twister.es); Kukulkán is also called "AirElemental" in the game's files; and they are both immune to bullet-based weapons. This makes the Air Elemental one of the few scrapped enemies that reappeared in another Serious Sam game.

Tactics[]

  • Only explosives, the XOP Flamethrower, and projectile weapons can harm Storm Golems. This, coupled with the doubled health over Lava Golems except for large ones and the fact that their projectiles are immune to the player's weapons, makes Storm Golems more difficult to kill.
  • Their tornado balls can be avoided by jumping and/or strafing.
  • Medium Storm Golems are much more dangerous due to their much higher health, requiring at least 3 fully charged shots from the SBC Cannon (1 with Serious Damage or 2 fully charged shots and then a follow-up from any other explosive weapon) to kill. Their arced projectiles are also harder to avoid.
  • As Storm Golems cannot duplicate themselves, they are slightly lower priority targets than many other Golem types provided the player has ammo for explosive and projectile weapons.
  • Luring a Storm Golem into mines from the MKII-B Minelayer is a great way to damage them.
  • Groups of small Storm Golems can be destroyed with the XL2 Lasergun, XPML21 Rocket Launcher, MK III Grenade Launcher, or CDF-ST-005 Plasmathrower. When facing off against medium Storm Golems, though, the Plasmathrower and cannon are more effective.
  • The Plasmathrower is a very effective weapon as its alternate fire mode can instantly kill small Storm Golems and quickly wear down medium Storm Golems, although the player must not be too far away as otherwise some of the projectiles will miss.
  • Storm Golems from far away are easy to avoid and deal with, as long as the player has sufficient ammo for explosive and projectile weapons, thus making them low priority targets. If they are close to the player, they become high-priority targets due to the massive amount of damage their melee attacks can do.
