The Arc-Al-Magi were a clan of mysterious and powerful magicians who are only mentioned in Serious Sam: The Second Encounter and Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem. Despite not being seen and only mentioned through NETRICSA and historical manuscripts, they do play an important part in The Second Encounter's plot involving the Holy Grail.

Overview[]

The Arc-Al-Magi were a clan of Egyptian descent who abandoned Egypt during the New Kingdom to begin a new life living among other human tribes around the world, with some of them joining the Eastern European slavic tribes.[1] It wasn't until the Early Middle Ages when the clan became fully established.[1]

The Arc-Al-Magi were the only known humans on Earth who remained in constant contact with the Sirians, and they knew that the Holy Grail was of vital importance to humanity and the Sirians, as well as for activating the backup spaceship the Sirians left behind on Earth.[2] They also kept some Sirian artifacts to themselves and had them hidden buried underground to keep them safe from people who wanted to steal or exploit them.

The Arc-Al-Magi were keepers of the Holy Grail, and they knew of its importance to humanity and the Sirians. They kept it hidden from anyone who was not affiliated with them or the Sirians, for fear that they could steal it or use it for their own sinister intentions.[2] They kept an important artifact, the Book of Wisdom, inside a castle in a remote town. This book was a crucial item for locating the Holy Grail.[3]

It is not known how large the Arc-Al-Magi was or how many people had became established members of the clan. What is known is that there existed several settlements where they resided in during the Middle Ages. One such settlement was located in Siberia, along with a few other in Eastern and Central Europe. One such settlement, Krwawitze, was located in Poland, while a second one located in a snowy mountainous region. They also built a large church, the Church of Sacred Blood, somewhere in Eastern Europe.

History[]

According to a Proto-Slavic Manuscript study report found at Dig Site no.36, there are hints that the Arc-Al-Magi have been around for thousands of years, dating all the way back to the time of the ancient Egyptians, and could possibly be related to the Theban priesthood.[1] A map found in the manuscript says that some of the priests were forced to flee their homeland, and decided to spread all over the world. From the manuscript, it is believed that the last Arc-Al-Magi settlement was located deep in eastern Siberia, where its members fled to avoid the Mongol Invasion of Russia. At the end of the 16th century, the Arc-Al-Magi hid in refuge in several underground cave systems, trying to preserve the Sirian artifacts they have discovered from unbelievers. One of these cave systems contained a large Sirian artifact (a portal of some kind) which was hidden there by the Arc-Al-Magi. This cave would soon be discovered by archaelogists in the 22nd century, and became known as Dig Site no.36.[1]

What happened to the Arc-Al-Magi in the Serious Sam: The Second Encounter and Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem timelines is unknown. In The Second Encounter, Mental had discovered their villages and were attacked by his forces.[4] In the other timeline, they likely cut off contact from the rest of humanity until they eventually died out.

Land of the Damned

Two villages located somewhere in the mountains of Europe was the only known hideout of the Arc-Al-Magi.

Soon after Sam arrives in Krwawitze, the location where the Babylonian time portal sends him, he fights his way through Mental's forces until he obtains the Book of Wisdom from the castle.[5] NETRISCA extracts the data from the book and tells Sam that the Holy Grail is located within a mystical ice castle.[6] With this crucial information in mind, Sam makes his way to some isolated villages in the mountains. Apparantly, these villages served as the hideout for the Arc-Al-Magi before they were attacked.[7] Sam meets heavy resistance from Mental's forces, but he is able to make it to the ice castle. Unfortunately for him, the Grail is not there, but NETRISCA tells him that it should be located in the Church of Sacred Blood, a church built by the Arc-Al-Magi.

Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem[]

Sirian portal dig site

The Sirian portal left behind by the Arc-Al-Magi.

While the Arc-Al-Magi don't appear in this game, they are mentioned in a letter left behind by the Dig Site administrator in a bunker that Sam discovers. Traces of the Arc-Al-Magi and their findings, as well as the large Sirian device they left inside, can be found inside the bunker.[8]
