Super Armor SS1

Super armor, a type of armor pickup.

Armor is a recurring pickup item in the Serious Sam series.

Overview[]

Armor appears in the form of pickups. When the player has armor, a certain amount of damage (usually up to 2/3 of the total damage) is absorbed from each attack. The damage absorbed by the armor is taken from the player's current armor points. This makes it much more likely that the player will survive multiple attacks or one stronger attack than they would without armor.

If the player's armor count is reduced to zero, the player will start taking full damage from attacks again. They can regain armor points by simply picking up an armor item.

Appearances[]

Armor is common throughout every Serious Sam game it appears in, with the exception of Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope. Large and Extra Large Armor pickups are rarer than ones that give less, and are often found in secrets. Extra small armor pickups are sometimes, but less often than Extra Small Health pickups, used in traps, such as a Kleer Skeleton running to and jumping the player.

When Serious Sam 3: BFE is played during December, blue presents containing armor are found scattered throughout the levels in random locations. They grant the player 200 armor points when picked up. Like other armor pickups, they glow and flash blue when viewed from a distance.

In Serious Sam: Tormental, armor behaves a lot differently than in other games. The amount of armor the player receives depends on the size of the armor; small ones provide the player with 5-10 armor points, while large ones give the player up to 50. The player can carry a lot more armor as well, going up to over 300. Armor can be purchased from shops using figments or keys or it can be dropped from enemies, bosses and props scattered around the dungeon.
