The Destruction of Earth was a cataclysmic event that resulted in the complete annihilation of both the Earth and its natural satellite, the Moon. The event took place almost immediately after the Battle for the Time-Lock, during the final days of the Mental War. While it was a victory for Mental, as he had managed to finish off humanity in this timeline, he was unsuccessful in stopping Sam from entering the Time-Lock.[1]

Prelude[]

Moon approaches Earth

The Moon makes its approach towards Earth.

With Ugh-Zan IV and Mental's forces defeated, Sam gets out Stein's cell phone to call Mental and threaten him one last time. However, Mental is not there to answer his call. Instead of him answering, his daughter Judy Mental receives the call. Sam asks if her father is home.[2] She says that he is "out destroying some pissant planet in the middle of nowhere" and asks if she can leave a message. Sam tells Judy to tell her father that he was coming over to "play", by which he means to kill him.

Judy said that he has to make it quick, as her father is going to "moon" Earth at any moment. Sam doesn't quite understand this concept of "mooning", but after seeing the Moon about to collide with Earth, he realizes he has no choice. Destined to get to the Time-Lock fast, Sam says he is next going to see Mental in 3000 BC and manages to escape seconds before Earth is obliterated.[2]

Aftermath[]

Having destroyed both Earth and its Moon, Mental succeeded in finishing off the human race in the Serious Sam 3: BFE timeline. However, not all is lost, as Sam made it through the Time-Lock before he himself could be killed.[2]

Trivia[]

  • The shattered remains of Earth's mantle and core are still orange-hot after the Moon collides with it, but they visibly cool down within ninety seconds as the credits roll. With no atmosphere in space, this wouldn't be possible, as there's nowhere Earth's fragments could vent that heat.
  • It would have required Mental an immense amount of strength to be able to hurl the Moon at the Earth, especially at such a speed, as seen in the game's final cutscene. Considering the size of the Moon (3,474.8 km), it is physically impossible to move it out of orbit with current human technology; even igniting billions of rocket engines on its surface would barely move the Moon.
