The Therizinosaurus is an enemy that appears in Serious Sam: Double D and Serious Sam: Double D: XXL.

Overview

The Therizinosaurus is a large, blue feathered dinosaur that walks on two legs. It has very long claws, which it uses to attack enemies. Its back can be jumped on to reach high places.

Therizinosaurus only appear in the Jurassic era levels, staring with Jurassic Reckoning.

Behavior and skills

Therizionosaurus are normally docile and will usually spend their time feeding on leaves from trees and wander around. Due to their large size, they have very high hitpoints and can take a considerable amount of time to kill unless the player is equipped with powerful weapons.

If a Therizionosaurus is provoked by either the player or enemy attacks, they will try to get close to the target and slice at them with their large claws. Modified Therizinosaurus will constantly fire light blue plasma balls at the target. The modified Therizinosaurus wears a mask, which can be destroyed. If the mask is destroyed, the Therizinosaurus will help whomever destroyed the mask and attack nearby enemies.

Tactics

• Normal Therizinosaurus are completely harmless as long as the player doesn't shoot them or let an enemy hit them.
• It is highly recommended to shoot the modified Therizinosaurus in the face. With enough shots, the mask on it will break, which will stop the Therizinosaurus from firing at the player and instead focus on other enemies. This makes the Therizinosaurus a very useful distraction so that the player can focus on other enemies or kill the enemy the Therizinosaurus is attacking without fear that the enemy will attack back.
• Strong weapons, such as the 12 Gauge Shotgun and LM32 Rocket Launcher, work best against the Therizinosaurus. These weapons let the player quickly either kill it or get its facemask off thanks to how powerful they are.
• Killing Therizinosauruses is not really recommended due to how much firepower is needed to kill one and is a waste of ammo. The player is better off saving their ammo for other enemies. In XXL, killing Therizinosauruses does not reward the player with any Cerebral Controllers, either.
• When paired with other enemies, the Therizinosaurus is a high threat. Its constant barrage of fireballs makes it difficult to dodge other enemy's attacks. Defeating or destroying its mask as soon as possible give the player much more breathing room to dodge other enemy projectiles and enemies themselves.

Trivia

• In real life, Therizinosaurus lived in Asia during the Late Cretaceous period, and not in Nova Scotia during the Jurassic. It's possible that Mental transported them to this region using time-travel technology.
