This page contains the console commands for Serious Sam 3: BFE.

General InstructionsEdit

To bring up the console, press the tilde key (~). The console uses Lua script. There is a command history accessed by pressing Up/Down. You can fill in a command partway and hit Tab to show a list of partial matches, select them with Up/Down, and hit Enter to choose. You can also look at the console history by pressing Shift+PageUp/PageDown.

"help" on a single line displays all console commands. "help command" or "command /?" shows information on that command.

To change the value of a variable, use a "variable=value" format. If a variable is boolean (true or false), then a value of 0 is false and 1 is true. To execute a function, use a "function()" format.

  • gam_strConnectToIP [CString] - The server to connect to as a client.

Network Server HostingEdit

  • gamBanByIndex(index iClient) - Bans the user with the given index (by IP).
  • gamBanByName(CString strPlayerName) - Bans the player with the given name (by IP).
  • gamKickByIndex(index iClient) - Kicks the user with the given index.
  • gamKickByName(CString strPlayerName) - Kicks the user with the given name.
  • gamListPlayers() - List all joined players in the format "index: name".
  • gamRestartGame() - Restart the game.
  • gamRestartServer() - Restart the dedicated server so any changed options can take effect.
  • gamStart() - Start a game according to current settings configured by the gam_* variables.
  • gamStop() - Stop the current game.
  • gam_assuSplitScreenUsers [nil] - List of split-screen users.
  • gam_bAllowArmorItems [saved bool, default -1] - Whether armor items appear. Does not control specific triggers in-game.

  • gam_esgaStartAs [saved EStartGameAs, default 0] - Starting game type; 0 = singleplayer, 1 = server, 2 = client, 3 = main menu, 4 = demo, 5 = split-screen.
  • gam_gdDifficulty [saved EGameDifficulty, default -1] - Difficulty at which to start the new game; 0 = none, 1 = tourist, 2 = easy, 3 = normal, 4 = hard, 5 = serious, 6 = mental.
  • gam_iExtraEnemyDamagePerPlayer [saved index, default -1] - How much more damage is applied when enemy applies damage.
  • gam_iExtraEnemyStrength [saved index, default 0] - How much more health (in percent) to add to all enemies.
  • gam_iExtraEnemyStrengthPerPlayer [saved index, default 0] - How much more health (in percent) to add to all enemies, for each player currently active in the session.
  • gam_iInvulnerableAfterSpawning [saved index, default 0] - Whether players are invulnerable for a few seconds after spawning.
  • gam_iRespawnCredits [saved index, default -1] - How many times per level a killed player may respawn, shared between all players in session.
  • gam_idGameMode [CString, default "SinglePlayer"] - "Game type identifier."

Uncategorised CommandsEdit

  • Quit() - "Notification from server interface that client was terminated. Console function that allows quick exit (hit ~, Q, Tab, and Enter) from the game."
  • bmkResults() - Print the previous benchmarking results to the console, if any.
  • bmkStartBenchmarking(float tmStartIn, float tmDuration) - Start benchmarking, starting in tmStartIn seconds and lasting for tmDuration seconds. When done, print the results to the console.
  • bmkStopBenchmarking() - Immediately stop benchmarking and print the results. This does nothing if benchmarking isn't currently being done.
  • bmk_bAutoQuit [bool, default 0] - Presumably if true then benchmarking will quit when done, but doesn't appear to do anything.

  • bmk_bOnScreenReport [saved bool, default 1] - If true then an OSD will show benchmarking information while it's going on.
  • ccn_fLineFadeTime [saved float, default 2] - "Time in seconds during which the line will be fading out."
  • ccn_fLineLifeTime [saved float, default 20] - "Time in seconds during which the line will be visible."
  • ccn_fTextStretch [saved float, default 0.7] - "Extra stretch for the chat console text."
  • ccn_iLastLines [saved index, default 8] - Number of console history lines to show on the screen. Changing this does nothing.
  • ccn_vBottomLeft [saved vector2f] - "Position of the bottom left corner of the chat console in virtual (640x480) coordinates."
  • chatSay(string text) - "Sends chat msesage which contains specific text."
  • chtGiveAmmo(index ammo, int quantity) - Gives ammo with specified index and of specified quantity. An invalid index shows info on all available ammo types. 0 are Colt bullets, 1 are Shells, 2 are Assault rifle bullets, 3 are Rockets, 4 are Sticky bombs, 5 are Minigun bullets, 6 are Cannon balls, 7 are Auto shotgun shells, 8 are Electricity, and 9 are Sniper bullets. Requires cheats to be enabled.
  • chtGiveWeapon(index iWeapon) - Gives the weapon with specified index; if called with an invalid index, this shows info on available weapons. 0 is the Sledgehammer, 1 is the Colt, 2 is the Single Shotgun, 3 is the Double shotgun, 4 is the Mini gun, 5 is the Assault rifle, 6 is the Rocket launcher, 7 is the Sticky bomb, 8 is the Auto shotgun, 9 is the Cannon, 10 are the Hands, 11 is the Laser, and 12 is the Sniper. Requires cheats to be enabled.
  • cht_bAutoAim [bool, default 0] - "Auto aim cheat." Seems to have no effect.
  • cht_bEnableCheats [saved index, default 0] - Cheat level. 10 seems to be high enough to allow all cheats. Setting this value to non-zero excludes you from having any achievements or scoreboard entries.
  • cht_bFly [bool, default 0] - Whether to allow flying. Requires cheats to be enabled.
  • cht_bGhost [bool, default 0] - When true, you both fly and can travel through walls. Requires cheats to be enabled.
  • cht_bGiveAll [bool, default 0] - When set to true, every weapon is given to the player.
  • cht_bGod [bool, default 0] - When true, the player takes no damage.
  • cht_bInfiniteAmmo [bool, default 0] - When true, shooting a weapon costs no ammunition. Clips will still be depleted.
  • cht_bInvisible [bool, default 0] - When true, monsters don't react to the player's presence.
  • cht_bKillAll [bool, default 0] - When set to true, any currently spawned monsters immediately die.
  • cht_bKillBoss [bool, default 0] - "Kills boss."
  • cht_bShowAllNetricsaMessages [bool, default 0] - When set to true, Netricsa is filled with all possible entries.
  • cht_bTurbo [bool, default 0] - When true, Sam moves incredibly fast and leaps ridiculously high.
  • cht_bUnlockMentalMode [bool, default 0] - "When set, enables mental mode regardless of whether player enabled it or not."
  • cht_slGiveArmor [int, default 0] - When set, that amount of armor is added to the player's current value.
  • cht_slGiveHealth [int, default 0] - When set, that amount of health is added to the player's current value.
  • cld_iMaxThreads [index, default 0] - "Maximum number of threads to use by the collision (0=use system threads count)."
  • cli_iMaxBPS [saved index, default 12000] - "Maximum incoming bandwidth the client can accept."
  • cli_iMaxOutBPS [saved index, default 10000] - "Maximum outgoing bandwidth the client is allowed."
  • cmp_bLowQuality [saved bool, default 0] - "Use low (compressed) instead of optimal colormap quality."
  • cmp_iBaseMip [saved index, default 0] - "Specify which colormap mipmap wil be the most detailed one." This has no effect until after calling gfxRestart().
  • cmp_pixMaxSize [saved index, default 2048] - "Maximum allowed colormap dimensions (in pixels)."

  • conUpdateFilters() - "Internal function automatically called when console filters change. This function interprets the filter strings and makes them effective."
  • con_bFiltering [bool, default 1] - If true, then search anywhere in the string when Tab is pressed in the console and use near matches. If false, only match any command starting with the current string.
  • con_fHeightRatio [saved float, default 0.333] - Ratio of the screen taken by the console when invoked.
  • con_fLastLinesFadeTime [saved float, default 2] - How long one recent console line takes to fade out [seconds]. Only has an effect if con_iLastLines is not zero.
  • con_fLastLinesStayTime [saved float, default 5] - How long one recent console line stays visible before disappearing [seconds]. Only has an effect if con_iLastLines is not zero.
  • con_iLastLines [saved index, default 0] - "The number of recent console input lines to show even when console is not invoked."
  • con_strLastLinesFilter [saved CString, default "Info|Warning|Error|Fatal"] - "Which message types to show on the recent console lines."

  • crm_bAllowRendering [saved bool, default 1] - Whether to render crumbs. Crumbs are small detail meshes like scattered rocks and grass.
  • crm_bCastShadows [saved bool, default 0] - Whether crumbs should cast shadows.
  • crm_bPrebakedDynamicLights [saved bool, default 0] - Whether crumbs should use prebaked lighting and skip dynamic lighting.
  • crm_bReceiveShadows [saved bool, default 1] - Whether crumbs should receive shadows.
  • crm_fDensityBias [saved float, default 1] - Crumb density multiplier. Higher values place more crumbs.
  • crm_fDistanceBias [saved float, default 1] - Crumb distance multiplier. Higher values show more crumbs at longer distances.
  • crm_fMaxCachingTime [saved float, default 1] - "Maximum amount of time tile caching should spend per frame (in milliseconds)."
  • crm_iCachingThreshold [saved index, default 256] - "Models with lower vertex count will be cached in one mesh (tile)."
  • crm_iRenderDepthPrepass [saved index, default 2] - "Should crumbs render their depth-prepass? 0 = no, 1 = only z-buffer, 2 = z-buffer and distance buffers." The only readily visible difference is that any value less than 2 excludes crumbs from ambient occlusion.
  • cvarLoad(CString strPath) : bool - "Load persistent symbols from a given file."
  • cvarResetToDefaults() - "Reset all console variables to their default values."
  • cvarResetToDefaultsByHint(CString strHint) - "Reset console variables matching a given hint to their default values."
  • cvarRestoreRecent() - "Restore values of all console variables to values that were before resetting to defaults."
  • cvarSave(CString strPath) - "Save persistent symbols to the given files."

  • efx_fDesiredLuminance [saved float, default 0.18] - Desired luminance of the scene. This seems to be related to auto-exposure, which isn't used.
  • efx_fFixedEV [saved float, default 0] - The exposure setting to use when efx_bAutoExposure is false. Negative values make the screen brighter, positive values make the screen darker.
  • efx_fOcclusionBufferScale [saved float, default 0.5] - Ambient occlusion buffer scaling. 0.25 = quarter resolution, 0.5 = half resolution, 1.0 = full resolution.
  • efx_fOcclusionDepthOffset [saved float, default 7.5] - Bias factor for reducing ambient occlusion z-fighting issues.
  • efx_fOcclusionDithering [saved float, default 1] - How much to dither ambient occlusion buffer, from 0 for none to 1 for maximum.
  • efx_fOcclusionFallOff [saved float, default 0.5] - Spread distance of the ambient-occlusion sphere sampling points; 0 = don't spread, 1 = spread 99%.
  • efx_fOcclusionRadius [saved float, default 0.5] - Maximum distance of surrounding area that affects occlusion in metres.
  • efx_fOcclusionRadiusMaxStretch [saved float, default 15] - Maximum ambient occlusion radius stretch factor for distant occluders.
  • efx_fOcclusionRadiusMaxStretchDistance [saved float, default 1000] - The distance at which occluders cause maximum ambient occlusion radius stretching. Pixels between minimum and maximum stretch distance have stretched the ambient occlusion radius (between 1 and maximum stretch), in metres.
  • efx_fOcclusionRadiusMinStretchDistance [saved float, default 10] - The minimum distance at which ambient occlusion radius up-stretching begins. Pixels closer than this distance have down-stretched ambient occlusion radius. Pixels further have up-stretched radius.
  • efx_fOcclusionRadiusWeaponStretch [saved float, default 0.0025] - Ambient occlusion stretch factor when rendering the first-person weapon.
  • efx_fStreaksDithering [saved float, default 0.1] - Streaks dithering spread factor, 0 = no dithering.
  • efx_iLensFlareQuality [saved index, default 3] - Lens flare quality; 0 = no flares, 1 = corona only, 2 = corona and reflections, 3 = corona, reflections, and glare.
  • efx_iMaxRippleSources [saved index, default 10] - Maximum number of water ripple sources active at one time per rippler.
  • efx_iOcclusionBlur [saved index, default 2] - The number of times to apply blur over ambient occlusion.
  • efx_iOcclusionDitherTexture [saved index, default 0] - Which dither texture to use on ambient occlusion; 0 = standard, 1 = distributed over sphere.
