The Stone Elemental (Mud Golem in Serious Sam Classics: Revolution) is an enemy cut from Serious Sam: The First Encounter. It appears as a functioning enemy in Serious Sam Classics: Revolution.

Overview[]

The Stone Elemental is a creature made out of stone, much like how the Ice Elemental is made out of ice and the Lava Golem is made out of lava.

Like how the other scrapped Elementals were to occur on their own planet, it's likely that the Stone Elemental was to appear on the Rock Planet.

In Serious Sam: Classics Revolution, Mud Golems appear in the Bright Island campaign, where they first appear in Ruins of the Abyss via a secret or normally starting from Crystal Cove and are most prominently featured in the final level, The Steps of Despair. In the latter, a large Mud Golem appears as the fourth of the five final bosses. In co-op, Mud Golems can be made to appear in levels outside Bright Island if the mutator replacing enemies with new types is enabled. With this, it is possible that a large Mud Golem may appear as a boss in either Alley of the Sphinxes or The Grand Cathedral.

Behavior and skills[]

When a Mud Golem spots the player, it will throw rocks at them. Small Golems' rocks follow a linear trajectory while the bigger Golems throw rocks in an arced trajectory. The bigger Golems' rocks can be destroyed with the player's weapons. These rocks are quite weak and don't do much damage to the player.

If the player gets too close to a Mud Golem, the latter will retaliate with a powerful and potentially fatal ground pound.

While Mud Golems are weak, they can very easily split into smaller copies. Mud Golems split into smaller Golems for every 200 HP lost instead of the usual 500, and large Golems spawn smaller Golems for every 1000 HP lost rather than the usual 2000.

Tactics[]

Serious Sam Classics: Revolution[]

  • The same tactics for fighting Lava Golems apply to Mud Golems.
  • A single blast from a 12 Gauge Pump-Action Shotgun or Double Barrel Coach Gun will kill a small Mud Golem.
  • Medium Mud Golems are more dangerous than their smaller counterparts due to their higher health and bigger projectiles, along with their deadlier melee attacks. They also create smaller copies of themselves more often, which can prove a problem if the player doesn't eliminate the small Golems quickly.
  • It is possible to kill two or three small Mud Golems at once with the XPML21 Rocket Launcher or MK III Grenade Launcher. If they are close together, they will take the full damage from the projectile's splash damage.
  • Weapons like the XM214-A Minigun, CDF-ST-005 Plasmathrower, XL2 Lasergun, and SBC Cannon are effective for dealing with medium and large Mud Golems. The minigun and lasergun are especially effective as they can destroy the Mud Golems' projectiles and damage the Golems at the same time.
  • From a distance, Mud Golems generally are not a threat when paired with other enemies as their rocks deal little damage and can be easily avoided or shot down. If up close, though, they should be treated as high-priority targets due to their deadly melee attack.

Trivia[]

  • The Stone Elemental's projectile was left in the final version of The First Encounter, complete with code and model.
